A former minister of information, Alhaji Ikira Aliyu Bilbis has finally been arraigned before the Upper Sharia court 2 in Gusau, by the Zamfara state government for alleged vandalisation of campaign billboards of APC in the state.
When the case came up on Wednesday, the presiding judge, Jibril Ibrahim granted bail to Ikra Bilbils who is the Zamfara Central Senatorial Candidate of the People Democratic Party for the 2023 election.
According to the judge, part of the conditions for his bail is to produce two serving permanent Secretaries in the state civil service and a responsible person with a House worth twenty million naira in Gusau, the State capital.
The judge, therefore adjourned the case to 14th of December, 2022 for further hearing.
It would be recalled that the former minister was arrested on Tuesday by Security operatives over alleged sponsorship of political thugs to vandalise Campaign billboards, posters and other items belonging to the APC during a rally in honor of Dauda Lawal.
Bilbis was allegedly accused of Criminal Conspiracy, Mischief, public disturbance and destruction of public peace and properties in the state.
Earlier, Bilbis was arraigned before a Magistrate Court one in Gusau in the early hours of Wednesday, but when the presiding judge, Abubakar Gurbin-Bore after listening to prosecutor and defence counsel, he transfered the case to sharia court 2 Gusau, saying Magistrate Court lack powers to entertain such case.
He cited section 3 law no 7 of Zamfara State 2002 and section 5 of the same law that gave power to Magistrate Court to transfer such case to upper sharia court for determination.
