The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Dutse (FUD), Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Muhammad has said the Institution was forced to hiked its tuition fees and other charges.

He hinged the hike on current challenges confronting the institution.

The Vice Chancellor stated this on Wednesday at the maiden stakeholders’ meeting organized by the University and held at the Sir Mohammadu Sanusi Auditorium in Dutse.

He said among the current challenges include the payment of Untity bills, purchase of equipment, chemicals for laboratories, the purchase of lecture and examination materials as well as stationeries.

He added that others challenges include the purchase of drugs and other medical supplies to the University clinic being patronized on daily basis.
The VC also enumerated provision of sanitary items for the faculties, admin offices and students hostels maintenance.

Accordding to him constant demand for damaged infrastructures at the faculties as well as student hostels are some of the challenge confronting the University.

The VC avered that payment of salaries of casual cleaning staff and security personnel is further draining the purse of the Institution.

He therefore stressed that these are the expenses the FUD incur that are not covered in the grants provided by the government.

He also lamented that only N8 million is given to the University monthly to run it’s activities, saying it is grossly inadequate.

“Electricity alone is consuming over N16 million monthly. So if we cannot hike our tuition fees and other charges we cannot continue to remain in business”, VC added.
