A non governmental organisation, Citizens Voice Against Corruption (CIVAC) in Dutse, Jigawa state capital has declared support for fuel subsidy removal by the Nigerian government.
It also condemned in strong term the hypocrisy of some Nigerian political class who are criticising the action.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National coordinator of the organization, Comrade Abdulrazaq Alqali and made available to SINL Nigeria Online on Thursday.
The Organization also urged federal government to revamp the nation’s refineries in Kaduna, Warri and Port-Harcourt in order to bring down the prices of the refined petrol and make the products available.
According to CIVAC if that is done, it can ease the pressure on the forex reserve thus strengthening the nation’s currency.
“A strong Naira and local refining capacity will make the petroleum products cheap even without subsidies.
“If these refineries are revamped, hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs will be created, thus creating a multiplier effect in the fight against poverty and the growth of our economy”, CIVAC said.
It further explained that in a petroleum subsidy free system, when oil prices go low, Nigerians will pay for a much cheaper petroleum prices than they were paying in a petroleum subsidy regime.
