The Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has revealed plan to sponsor 500 out of school Children under the Gbaja Professional Volunteer Network in Zamfara State.
He said the alarming rate of out of school Children in Nigeria is unacceptable.
The sponsorship is in collaboration with Rikiji Foundation in Zamfara State, aimed at assisting poor and less privileged persons.
The speaker was represented at the flag off by his Chief of staff Hon. Sanusi Garba Rikiji on Thursday at the Emir’s palace in Gusau.
He said the Children would be sponsor to study up to level of high institution.
“This scholarship is complete from enrolment, to retention in school up to completion of primary education, they will also continue up to the university level as long as we are alive by the grace of God” he assured.
“This commitment is out of our conviction and support for President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Matawalle’s agenda of education for all”
He said the gesture will further reduce the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
He also said the program would give the children of the less privileged a sense of belonging, love and care.
He maintained that the program would remove the vulnerable children from roaming around the street.
“This intervention is shrouded with clean intention and proactive action towards ensuring that we provide an enabling platform that will facilitate education for all irrespective of economic status, tribe, religion, or geographical location.
“The Hounourable Speaker has designed and mandated his team, under my leadership as Chief-of-Staff, to ensure that this sponsorship of the less privileged children will be replicated in all the 36 states of the Federation.
“We must do something quick about this problem because it is a time bomb that we as leaders and concerned citizens must not allow to explode”.
