Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has sent a delegation led by his Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Mr Chibuzo Ndom, to the university in Jos, Plateau State, to evacuate all students of Abia origin.

The students are currently stranded as a result of the recent violence and subsequent closure of the institution.

This move was following an alarm raised by the students of the University of Jos, Plateau State last Thursday over continued attacks on them by hoodlums, whom they said had killed four students in the last five days.

According to the state Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, the contingent from Abia which includes security personnel are expected to ensure the safe return of the over 200 students of Abia origin back to the state capital, Umuahia, where the evacuees will be welcomed by the Governor.
