Mammoth crowd on Saturday stormed the Yakubu Gowon Airport Heipang to welcome Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, a week after the Court of Appeal nullified his mandate obtained during the March 18, 2023 Governorship election.

The enthusiastic crowd, stretching over 15 kilometers in a motorcade, defied the heavy downpour to express their support through chants like “We have structures; Mutfwang Gida, Gida; God is with you, we love you.” People in communities along the road lined up, waiving, dancing and echoing similar sentiments.

They reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Governor and their confidence in the Supreme Court for fairness and justice.

Recall, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang secured 525,299 votes, defeating APC candidate Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda with 481,370 votes. Despite the election tribunal confirming his victory, the Court of Appeal nullified the result, making the Supreme Court the beacon of hope for Plateau citizens awaiting the validation of their votes.

Addressing journalists at the airport, Governor Mutfwang referred the recent events as a temporary hurdle, assuring the people that God would restore the mandate. He expressed gratitude to Plateau citizens, friends across Nigeria, and globally for their support.

“I am excited to be back home, feeling loved by the people. I thank the good people of Plateau State for their prayers and steadfastness. We began this project with God on our side, and by His grace, Plateau will rejoice. We bear no grudges; we have confidence in the judiciary,” he said.

Encouraging unity, he stated, “There are people not happy with our unity, but let us stay together. I am proud of Plateau’s diverse support, across faiths and demographics, I urge us to remain united and peaceful. Our journey has hiccups, but they are temporary, and by God’s grace, we will reach the promised land.”
