The Nigeria Diaspora Network, on Friday, said it was ready to partner with the Federal Government in finding a lasting solution to the challenges Nigerians would face in the hike in utility tariffs.
The international coordinator of the U.S.-based group, Samuel Atolaiye, told journalists during a virtual media chat.
He said the current challenges being experienced by Nigerians as a result of hike in electricity tariff and petrol pump price are normal with developing countries and would eventually be surmounted.
Atolaiye urged the government “to deploy available human resources within the world class professionals among Nigerians in the Diaspora to find a lasting solution to the problems that can erode the confidence the people have built in the leadership of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
He stressed that his group had offered to assist the government in the areas of power generation and distribution as well as the implementation of the policy of government to fully deregulate the oil sector of the economy in a way that would ensure the masses did not suffer untold hardship.
“Nigeria is blessed with enough human resources; many of who are doing excellently abroad and willing to return home to contribute to the greatness of the country and end the recurrence cycle of poverty and hunger in the land.
“Our members are capable and willing to assist the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply round the clock in the country.
“For example, we have professionals who are experts in alternative sources of energy.
“We are ready to provide the services to review the existing policy and recommend improvement and assist the government with customised best practices ideas and standards”.
Atolaiye said the partnership would help to ensure service delivery.
The coordinator urged Nigerians to look beyond the initial pains of the recent increase in the pump prices of petroleum products.
