Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked and killed one immigration officer, while two others sustained injuries in Maigari Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to reports the incident occurred on Tuesday nigth along Galadi-Birniwa-axis, about 70 kilometres away from Maigatari council’s headquarters.
Confirming the incident, the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Isma’il Abba said their gallant officers on patrol responded appropriately with heavy gun fire.
“Our gallant men forced the asalaints to abandoned their two motorcycles, a phone and fled into the forest along Nigeria and Niger Republic”, the Comptroller said.
“The bandits arrived at the patrol base on two Bajaj motorcycles, one carrying three people and the other one carrying two people”, he added.
He explained that the bandits immediately on arrival opened fire on the Immigration men on patrol, which resulted to the death of one of them Abdullahi Mohammed.
“While Abba Musa Kiyawa and Zubairu Garba sustained serious bullets wounds and are now receiving treatment at the hospital” Abba added.
