The Deputy chief whip of the Senate, Senator Onyeka Nwebonyi has revealed how he hawked on the streets of Lagos to enable him to pay school fees to read law.
Nwebonyi who represents Ebonyi North senatorial district at the 10th senate made this known while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said his colleagues in the 10th senate are determined to give good governance to Nigerians.
“I was hawking in Lagos, I hawked to pay my law school fees.
“That is why I have never looked down on any poor man.
“I paid N50 million to settle the school fees of indigent students, am trying to extend my hands across the Niger” he said.
Nwebonyi eulogized the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, saying “it has been wonderful under Akpabio in terms of bringing senators together”.
According to the lawmaker, this has earned Akpabio trust among the 109 senators.
Commenting on the 12th June democracy day, Senator Nwebonyi canvassed for additional state for the south east geopolitical zone.
“Other geopolitical zones have six states, the south east has five, let the zone get additional state.
“For peace to reign there must be equity and justice. We should treat all the geopolitical zones equal” Nwebonyi said.
He explained that the younger generation fought to be in the Senate to fight corruption.
He bemoaned that the country’s development has been undermined by bad leadership and poor management of resources.
