It was Wayne Huizenga who reportedly said “Some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it happen.”
This assertion no doubt points to the long walk that led to the success and progress in Ikwo Progressive Union, Abuja.
This is a union that has had in previous years eminent sons of Ikwo Noyo as leaders, and in 18 years of its incorporation with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Abuja, had witnessed the highs and lows in leadership.
The current wave of success is a product of vision and charisma of Leonard Emenike Nwofor and his Executive elected barely six months ago.
It is noteworthy that Ikwo Union was registered with CAC in 2004 and has paraded great leaders such as Chief Mike Nweke, former Perm Sec in the Head of Service, Wing Commodore Osmond Ogah, Hon Barrister Emeka Nwode, Barrister Francis Iyeji, Prince Felix Inya etc.
But after their time, the Union went into comatose due to myriad of challenges. This was the scenario at the time Leonard Emenike Nwofor and his team was elected to lead the Union.
They took up the challenge to bring voice back to a people who are known for their strong Unity, strength of character and care for each other. In fact every Ikwo man or woman is an asset to humanity and cannot be drowned in the sea of Unions in Abuja.
It was therefore, understandable that all Ikwo Noyo sons and daughters came out with pomp and pageantry during this year’s end of your ceremony to announce her rebirth under the new humble but focused leadership of Mr. Nwofor.
It was all joy and fun filled meeting when the indigenes of Ikwo Local government Area Ebonyi State resident in Abuja hosted her 2022 end of the year meeting on the 26th of November, 2022 at Quality Link Neighborhood Park, Kigoma Str. Wuse Zone 7, FCT Abuja.
The last meeting of the year was well attended by members who were prepared to enjoy themselves as there was enough arrangement for entertainment, but most importantly was the satisfaction each member of the union had as a result of the competent leadership and transformative style of the new executives elected and sworn into office on the 26th of June, 2022.
Hence, every member was eager to hear from the Chairman, Mr. Leonard Nwofor, the achievements so far made in the last five months and most importantly the agenda for the year 2023.
Speaking during the meeting, the chairman, thanked all the members of IPU for all their efforts and cooperation with the executives which have resulted in the quantum leap of the union from the unenviable position they met the union on resumption of office to the enviable position the union now occupies.
He also appreciated the exco members and individuals who have been making personal contributions towards the progress of the union, and prayed the almighty God to bless them richly.
The chairman used the medium to reel out the achievements made by the new exco within the last five months.
Reading through the annual report prepared by the exco, Mr. Leonard Nwofor mentioned a number of tasks and projects carried out by the union under his leadership, ranging from the activation of the unions bank account, constitution review, increase in membership, cooperation with Ebonyi state Community in Abuja, relocation of the unions meeting venue and one year payment, production of dues card, new letter head design, and the settling of welfare packages due for some bereaved members of the union and others due for social benefits.
He then called on every member of the union to be up and doing as those who are committed to the progress of the union are in for a joyful cruise in the year 2023, saying there will be a lot to benefit especially by financial up to date members.
In attendance at the meeting were members from all works of life, ranging from the civil service, armed forces, Lawyers, and Business men of all sorts; prominent among them were Chief Kingsley Nwuruku (Akuenwebe 1 of Ikwo), Hon. Sunday Oke, Barr. Francis Iyaji and MWO Romanus Nwanchor (Rtd) among others.
The meeting ended in joyful mood as members took group pictures and were served with sumptuously prepared pepper soup and drinks of various kinds.
The union will resume meetings on the last Sunday of February, 2023. As noted by John Maxwell, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”.
Chief Leonard Emenike Nwofor is a leader that knows the way and goes the way to achieve results. Ikwo Noyo is now rebranded to the glory of God and when we return in 2023 by the Grace of God, the sky will be our starting point.
