The Zamfara State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has commissioned a Rapid Response Unit office at Igala Quarters in Gusau.
The facility was donated by a philanthropist in the state.
The State commandant of NSCDC Mohammed Bello Muazu at the commissioning ceremony of the Rapid Response unit’s office on Tuesday in Gusau said, NSCDC was committed to wage war against crimes and other criminals activities in the State.
He disclosed that the Commandant General of NSCDC Dr Abubakar Audi Ahmed’s action was informed by the five Rs vision capsule of the Corps which is to rejig, revamp, restructure, reposition and to rejuvenate the Corps in line with international best practices.
According to him, the Rapid Response unit of the Corps is the mobile strike force of the organization, specially created to respond to distress calls and to deal with security situations impromptu.
“The Rapid Response unit is specifically created to protect the civil populace frоm perceived security threats and molestations by hoodlums and miscreants in the society.
“Hence the initiative by this community to have this unit office positioned in this area for a noble development.
“I therefore call on the well meaning indigines of the State to close ranks with security agencies to ameliorate the security situation in the State” he said.
The Zamfara commandant further said that the Rapid Response unit’s office will play a dual role in the community and Gusau metropolis, first, to give a security facelift to the community and to act as a harbor of the Rapid Response unit in response to distress calls.
He maintained that members of the command will be positioned there 24/7 expecting calls and responding appropriately and to also maintain security in Gusau metropolis.
Earlier, the philanthropist who built and donated the Rapid Response office, Alhaji Mustafa Kwando, represented by Professor Nasir Garba Anka said the NSCDC rapid response office was donated not only for the resident community but also for the benefit of all citizens in the state.
He called on the community to do the needful and provide all necessary support and cooperation for the smooth operation of the unit office.
He further called on wealthy individuals and organisations to emulate the kind gesture of the philanthropist.
