The Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has made significant strides in its fight against corruption by recovering over N300 million public funds from August 2024 to date.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Salisu Abdu during an interview with newsmen at the Manpower Development Institute, venue of the Sensitization workshop organized for Public and civil servants.
Barrister Abdu further highlighted the commission’s commitment to transparency and accountability in it’s operation.
“Since its inception one year ago, the commission has received over 200 public complaints, with 75% of them resolved”, he stressed.
Barrister Abdu attributed this success to the commission’s strategic approach, focusing on prevention rather than just punishment.
“We are now telling the thief to be careful. We are here,” he emphasized, underscoring the commission’s proactive stance.
According to him the commission’s efforts have not been limited to recovery alone, but settling complaints out of court.
He revealed that they have invited several local government council chairmen, including those currently in power, for questioning over public complaints affecting their councils.
He stressed that the commission’s role is not just about arrest but also about inviting individuals for investigation, citing the law that established the commission.
“The Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission’s achievements demonstrate a significant step towards creating a corruption-free environment in the state.
“With a clear mandate to investigate and prosecute corruption-related offenses, the commission is poised to make a lasting impact in Jigawa State”, he concluded.
