Jigawa govt to introduce dry season farming in Sahel areas

Jigawa State Government has put in place, machinery to start dry season farming in Maigatari area, a sahel part of the state.

This is contained in a statement by Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs to Governor Umar Namadi, Hajiya Zainab Rabo Ringim and made available to SINL Nigeria Online on Saturday.

She said the Governor stated this  recently during his business trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he met with foreign partners and Investors. 

The SSA explained that the essence of the Governor’s trip was to boost the economy of the state as well as atain self sufficiency in food production. 

“Mini dams will be provided in the affected areas to facilitate round the year farming activities. 

“Some of the proposals centered on the need to introduce irrigation services by providing mini dams across the area and boreholes.

“There are efforts to upgrade and expand our local markets especially the Maigatari market, one of the largest cattle market in the west African region,” she stressed.

She added that details of the meeting in Saudi Arabia, however entails request for grants and other non interest loan facilities.
