The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Honourable Idris Garba Jahun, has launched a campaign to tackle the menace of out-of-school children in Miga Local Government Areas of the state.
The Speaker, on Thursday provided free uniforms, bags and other learning materials to about 300 pupils in Sbardallam village in Miga Local Government Area.
He said in Miga Local Government Area alone 8000 out of school children are targeted in the. Programme.
According to the Speaker, the campaign became necessary due to the alarming rate of out-of-school children in the state and in the country.
“In the 12 points agenda of Danmodi the state government had made significant investment in the education sector to reduce the number of the out of school children.
“Education is the key to unlocking the potential of any society, and that it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure that every child has access to quality education.
“I want to use this occasion to call on parents, community and religious leaders, especially during the Jummu’at prayers, Imams should enlighten the people on the need for their children to be educated.
“You cannot become a Doctor, Engineer, or professor without going to school and one cannot be useful to his or her society without education,’ he said.
Jahun also expressed commitment to supporting the state government’s efforts to improve education in the state.
He said as the campaign kicked off, there is a sense of optimism that it will make a significant impact in reducing the number of out-of-school children in the State.
He therefore said with the support of all stakeholders, it is hoped that every child in the state will have access to quality education as well as a brighter future.
