Jigawa State Government trains 160 young women on waste recycling

In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and empower women, another set of 160 young women are undergoing a four day training on waste recycling at the Gumel Emirate Foundation in Jigawa state.

The training which was organized on Wednesday by the Jigawa state Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPA) is supported by the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF).

Briefing newsmen at the venue of the programme, Gumel Council Chairman, Honourable Lawan Ya’u Abdullahi said the training, is aimed at equipping women with skills to lead environmental conservation efforts in their communities.

The Chairman urged the trainees to train more women in their neighborhoods, emphasized the importance of community-led initiatives.

He assured that the council would continue to support the training of women across all electoral wards, with at least five women benefiting from the program in each ward.

Also speaking, the Director JISEPA, Sanitarium Adamu Sabo explained that the workshop focused on recycling waste into useful products that can be sold in local markets within and outside the state. 

Sabo encouraged the women to take the training seriously, emphasizing its potential to improve their economic well-being.

He further stressed that the program was sponsored by the JISEPA in conjunction with UNICEF, among others.

He then assured the women that their products would be marketed locally, to provide them with a source of incomes.

“The training is part of a broader effort to promote environmental sustainability and empower women in Jigawa State. 

“By equipping women with skills and knowledge, the program aims to create a ripple effect of positive change in communities across the state.

“We will soon come out with another programme to further clear our rural and urban centres of dirty wastes as well as keep our environment clean,” he concluded.
