(SINL NIGERIA) The chairman Senate committee on works, Senator Mpigi Barinada has expressed optimism that late environmental activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa will be smiling in his grave following the signing into law bill establishing Federal University of Environmental Technology, Ogoni by President Bola Tinubu.
Indeed the senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district applauded President Tinubu for giving concern to the oppressed people of Ogoniland in particular and Niger Delta in general.
He recalled that what late Ken Saro-Wiwa advocated for was the upliftment of the Ogoniland and its people, saying with the presidential assent for the establishment of the university will excite past heroes in their graves.
Mpigi, who is also the vice chairman of committee on oil and gas host communities was reacting to the signing into law the bill establishing federal university in Ogoniland by President Tinubu.
“I think we must thank President Tinubu for giving concern to the oppressed people of Ogoniland in particular and Niger Delta in general. What the late Ken Saro-Wiwa stand for was the upliftment of the Ogoniland and its people and with what president Tinubu has done today even our past heroes would be smiling in their graves.”
Senator Mpigi, who sponsored the bill said “this achievement is not mine alone but a collective effort, embodying the voices of our communities, the resilience of our people, and the unwavering support of our leaders. The labours and sacrifices of our heroes past now rest on our shoulders, and it is our duty to sustain this beacon of hope for future generations.
“I therefore call on the Ogoni people to sheath their swords and remain peaceful yet vigilant as the ongoing dialogue progresses. This moment demands unity and patience as we seek lasting solutions to the challenges confronting Ogoniland. The Journey towards Justice and development is ongoing, and our collective resolve will determine our victory
“As we move forward, we remain committed to providing leadership, advocacy, and unwavering support for the aspirations of the Ogoni people. I assure my people that I will continue to be a trusted voice and a dedicated representative, ensuring that the Interests of Ogoniland are championed at every level”.
Additionally, the lawmaker acknowledged the leadership of the 10th National Assembly-led by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio and the Speaker of The House of Representatives, Rt. Hon, Tajudeen Albas, for their Invaluable support in ensuring the swift passage of this crucial Bill.
“Their commitment to national development and responsiveness to the aspirations of the Ogonil people have been instrumental in making this long-standing dream a reality”.
He also recognised the support of former governor Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, saying his guidance was instrumental in achieving the milestone.
