Kidnapping: Zamfara Community Protest as Bandits kill businessman after collecting N35million ransom

Residents of Nahuce Community in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara State on Sunday, protested over incessant attacks by armed bandits, saying they lost a prominent businessman, Alhaji Hadi Babangeme even after paying N35million ransom.

The community lamented that they paid  N200million ransom at different time to the bandits, stressing that yet there is no peace in the area.

Indeed, the peaceful protest took place in front of the Zamfara state government house in Gusau.


Addressing newsmen shortly after the protest, the leader of the protesters, Alhaji Musa Manager bemoaned that residents of the town were no longer sleeping with their two eyes closed. 

According to Manager some people were kidnapped on Saturday, while others have been in the kidnappers den for long.

He said “Recently a prominent businessman, Alhaji Hadi Babangeme, who was kidnapped was killed by his abductors.

“Our people were shocked and traumatized when we heard that a businessman, Alhaji Hadi Babangeme Nahuce died in the hand of his abductors after they collected N35million ransom from his family”.

He further lamented that people of Nahuce community were no longer safe, adding that many have fled the town, “we paid N200million ransom to armed bandits, but we are not safe, they keep on attacking and abducting our people” Manager said.

He explained that recently “the bandits abducted nine people and we paid ransom, but they refused to release them until we supplied Motorcycles to them before they regained freedom”. 

The community, therefore appealed to the State, federal government and security agencies to come to their aid and protect them from incessant attacks.

They appealed for the deployment of more security personnel, establishment of mobile police base and presence of more military troops in the area.
