The late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun has been described as a detribalised Nigerian.
Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Ali, a member of the APC, representing Oyo South at the 10th Senate made this known in a tribute to the late monarch.
Recall, the Olubadan joined his ancestors on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the University College Hospital ( UCH) Ibadan at the age of 81, two years after ascending the throne.
Speaking with newsmen on the demise of the monarch on Wednesday in Abuja, Senator Abiodun-Ali noted that apart from been destabilised the late monarch also defended the interest of Nigerians when he was in the upper legislative chamber.
Earlier at the plenary on Wednesday and in a motion, Senator Abiodun-Ali sought for a minute silence in honour of the departed former colleague.
Specifically, the lawmaker told the Senate that the late Olubadan was a leader per excellence and a community developer and service – driven politician which culminated into his election as Senator of the federal Republic of Nigeria from 1999 to 2003.
“The late Olubadan was a man of peace and custodian of culture and values of the Yoruba people” he said.
Similarly, two other senators, Yinus Akintunde, Oyo Central and Abdulfatai Buhari, Oyo North, also eulogized the late monarch and his contribution to the nation.
