(SINL NIGERIA) The Senate committee on Aviation on Wednesday bemoaned what it described as continuous disregard of invitation of the committee by agencies of ministry of aviation.
Specifically, the committee warned the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo (SAN) that it will not hesitate to sanction the ministry in future.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North) made this known during the National Assembly joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Aviation at the defence of 2025 aviation ministry’s budget proposal.
Indeed, Buhari bemoaned the Ministry’s lack of cooperation, saying it is against legislative practice.
He said “It is unacceptable for a government agency to ignore invitations from lawmakers, who represent the people. Whenever we call, your agencies should respond promptly”.
Additionally, the committee’s joint sitting rejected the Ministry’s ₦71.1 billion budget proposal, stressing insufficient documentation on ongoing projects.
Consequently, lawmakers directed Keyamo to submit comprehensive project details by next week, warning that continued lack of transparency and responsiveness could strain relations between the Ministry and the National Assembly.
Senator Buhari therefore cautioned Keyamo to improve communication between the Ministry and the legislature, pointing out that ignoring invitations is unprofessional.
