(SINL NIGERIA) The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Tony Ojukwu has said the commission will continue to contribute its quota in building capacity for the media to report complex human rights issues.
He said the issues include human rights in migration, business and human rights among other emerging human rights matters.
Dr. Ojukwu made this known on the occasion of the 2024 media Parley held in Abuja.
He acknowledged the invaluable role the media play in shaping narratives and informing the public, saying “we are honoured to have you as our allies”.
The Executive Secretary, who was represented by the Director Legal Services and Enforcement, Hajiya Rabi Anwar said the commission is committed to openness, transparency and collaboration, stressed that “we look forward to creating even more impactful stories together”.
He revealed that as a token of appreciation, the commission has instituted a yearly media award to further register its immense regards for unalloyed support to the NHRC.
“Today presents a great opportunity for us to interact and reminisce our achievements, challenges and the way forward in our collective goal to serve the public better.
“This year witnesses another milestone of extensive and impactful publicity of human rights issues, which has continued to redefine the profile of human rights reporting and feedback in our dear country”.
He added that the occasion was designed to celebrate responsible and result oriented journalism.
