Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation proposes N145.82b for 2024 fiscal year

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Prof. Joseph Utsev  has urged the National Assembly to back the ministry to enhance the completion of all ongoing projects across the country.

The minister made the plea on Tuesday during the presentation of 2024 budget to the joint session of the National Assembly committee on water resources and Sanitation in Abuja.

The minister explained further that the Overhead Budget Proposal for Ministry stands at N371,23,876 while its Parastatals is 42,228,567,587. “The Personnel Cost Proposal for the Ministry is N2,983,95,416 and it’s parastatals will take N10,57,957,116” he said.

Utsev added that 6 new projects have been proposed in the 2024 Budget, saying they are critical to improving water sanitation and issue of flooding. This he noted will boost socioeconomic activities in the country.

According to him, “the primary objective is to enable the ministry to achieve its mandate in providing a quality water and address issues of dam to boost agricultural production and food security in the country.

Earlier, the chairman Senate committee on water resources and Sanitation Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari advised the minister to ensure that all ongoing projects are completed before embarking on new ones. 

He urged the minister to brief the committee on the details of  intervention and the performance of the 2023 budget and the ministry’s plans for 2024.

Ha said alot need to be done to prevent further flood disaster in the country.

According to him, the committee is ready to support the ministry in their proposed budget, to boost the economy.
