My invitation to appear before House of Assembly a disobedience to court order, says Zamfara Dep. Gov

The Zamfara State deputy Governor Mahadi Aliyu Mohammed has described  the invitation to him by the State House of Assembly to appear before it as move to impeachment process.

According to him, it was improper and unlawful, saying its constitute disobedience to court order.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday in Gusau, the Deputy Governor disclosed that he has written a letter to the State House of Assembly to inform them of  an order from court relating to the invitation extended to him.

“There is a pending court action touching among others, on any process, in any form or manner relating to the instant invitation extended to me, in the said pending case, there is an order for the maintenance of status quo ante bellum, made by the court on 19th July 2021”.

While alerting the general public, Mohammed revealed that despite the foregoing state of affairs, the Zamfara speaker and lawmakers have embarked on steps and actions.

“The speaker of the Zamfara State house of Assembly and members have now embarked on steps and actions to over reach the pending suit, disobey the order of the court and render the effect of the suit nugatory by scheduling sitting to proceed with impeachment proceedings on Thursday 29th July 2021 against the deputy Governor of Zamfara State “.


According to him, he was constrained to let the general public know the situation in the State. 

“I am constrained to draw the attention of the public to this ugly situation in the matter, with hope that well meaning citizens and people of goodwill, will call the House of Assembly,  Zamfara State to order on the need to obey the subsisting order of the court”.

He further said that the court order was served on chief judge of Zamfara State, State House of Assembly and the Governor Bello Mohammed Mattawale. 

He maintained that people’s Democratic party, PDP has instituted an action at the federal high court, Abuja judicial Division in suit no.FHC/Abuja/CS/650/2021″.

“PDP Vs INEC and 5 others challenging the vire of the Zamfara State house of Assembly, as presently constituted, to commence impeachment or any other proceedings against  the deputy Governor of Zamfara State, elected on the platform of PDP”.
