The Director General of Michael Imoudu National Institute of Labour Studies, Comrade Issa Aremu on Monday stunned the senate committee on Employment and Labour over the condition of official vehicle inherited from his predecessor.
“My personal car better than official inherited vehicle”.
Presenting an overview of the 2021 and 2022 budget proposals for the institute, Aremu, flanked by the minister of state for labour, Festus Keyamo said lack of operational vehicle was a major challenge of the institute.
“The car am using as official vehicle is not up to my personal car” he emphasised.
He urged the Committee to increase the capital expenditure of the institute, stressing that the security of the institute also need to be improved, “we need CCTV, even the security personnel also require security” he said.
He bemoaned that 72 research institutes were currently on strike, explaining that proper labour training, particularly on labour law will reduce the rate of industrial action in the country.
Meanwhile chairman of the committee, Senator Godiya Akwashiki (Nasarawar North) however urged the Director General of the institute to liaise with the minister of state to enhance demand of the institute in the 2022 budget.
“Liaise with minister of state so that the Committee can assist you” Akwashiki said.
