To enhance effective policing in Nigeria, the National Assembly on Monday canvassed for more funds for the police service commission (PSC).
The chairman of the senate committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abdulhamid Malam-Madori made the plea during the 2024 budget defence of the PSC before the National Assembly joint session of the committee on Police Affairs in Abuja.
According to the lawmaker, this is imperative considering the enormous task of the commission, “the proposed budget of the commission is not realistic to meet up President Bola Tinubu renewed hope agenda” he said.
He said the senate is ready to support the budget of the PSC to enable them perform their duty of policing the country and also alleviate the suffering of Nigeria Police Force.
Malam Madori bemoaned poor implementation of budget as one of the major problems of Nigeria, but expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu with the support of 10th National Assembly led by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Nigerians will feel the impact of budget of renewed hope by the President.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government cannot deliver on its Renewed Hope Agenda without tackling insecurity, and other critical infrastructure.
Earlier, the chairman of police Service Commission (PSC), Ex-IGP Solomon Arase told the committee that under his leadership, Nigerians will see Police with difference if properly funded.
He said on assumption in office, he has introduced some reforms to enhance effective and workable policing in Nigeria.
He applauded the committee for their support to make Nigeria a crime free society.
