A group, under the aegis Youth leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West geo-political zone have insisted on the February 2022 date for the party’s national convention.

Specifically, the group urged the national leadership of the party not to consider a shift of the forthcoming national convention of the party slated for February 2022.

Speaking at a press conference in Akure, on Monday, the Acting South-West Youth Leader, Mr. Kolade Paff Lawal, who led other youth leaders observed that the postponement might spell doom for the ruling party.

Indeed, Lawal raised the alarm that some persons within the party were lobbying for the date to be postponed to a later date.

Consequently, he urged the party leadership to shun such pressure.

The youth leaders also stressed that the age limit for the next NWC membership should not be above 50 years, adding that competent youths should be supported to win at the convention so as to have viable leadership ahead of 2023 general elections.

“We commend the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party led by His Excellency, Gov. Mai Mala Buni for being steadfast and dogged in their approach to party governance. In the same vein, we commend the CECPC for listening to the voices of reasons on the choice of February as the definite date for the conduct of the National Convention.

“Also, we commend the party leadership in the southwest for all the good work they have been doing to ensure party unity as well as meaningful service delivery, through good governance, to the people. In this respect, we wish to particularly thank all APC Governors in the southwest”.
