(SINL NIGERIA) A Non Governmental Organization, Save the Children International has launched a three year educational programme in Jigawa State where about 133,000 out of school children are expected to return back to schools across the state.
About £35 Million Euro has been set aside for the whole programme to be carried out in the three Local Government Areas of each state in three years.
The programme was launched in a workshop held at the Ahmadu Bello Conference Hall, New Secretariat Dutse, Jigawa State capital on Wednesday.
The occasion was part of the European Union (Eu) funded Accelerating Basic Education and Livelihood Opportunities for children and youth in Northern Nigeria meant for the three States.
Declaring the workshop open, the state Acting Governor, Aminu Usman Gumel said the present government has a zeal to improving education as one of its priority as well as one it’s 12 points agenda.
Also speaking, Mr Stephen Sawa, the State Team Leader of Save the Children said the three year programme is going to be implemented in three States of Jigawa, Kano and Sokoto.
He said about £35 Million Euro is set aside for the whole programme to be carried out in the three Local Government Areas of each state.
Mr Sawa explained that the programme will enable about 400,000 expected out of school children to return back to schools.
He said although the programme is targeting about 417,000 children in the three states in the northwest Nigeria, adding that with time the number will be increased.
He added that Save the Children is successfully going to implement the programme in partnership with Eu as sponsor, and PLAN International as well as DAG respectively.
He however said, the objective of the three year programme is to provide information on expected processes, with an understanding of partnership, safeguarding, gender and inclusion, financial management fraud risk and compliance and project implementation, monitoring and reporting guidance.
Similarly, Mrs Tobi Vandi, the Programme Coordinator in Borno State said 60 percent of the beneficiaries are going to be girls.
She pointed out that 60 percent of the beneficiaries are also going to benefit from the livelihood support programme.
