The Zamfara State command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recovered 14 bags of precious stones fromining site at Sauna area of Talata Mafara local government of ZAMFARA state.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the illegal mining site was raided on Thursday, the public relations officer of NSCDC, zamfara State command, DSC Aminu Ismail Maru said the recovered stones were as a result of tip off.
According to him, the raid was in collaboration with the federal ministry of solid minerals development aimed at stopping illegal mining in the State.
“Our men (NSCDC) in collaboration with state office federal ministry of solid minerals development, acting on credible information raided mining site located at Sauna village of Talata Mafara local government and recovered 14 bags of precious stones”.
Maru disclosed that on reaching the site, the suspected illegal miners absconded and left behind fully loaded bags of precious stones,” which our men brought to the command today”.
He maintained that men and officers of NSCDC state command would continue to raid any illegal mining sites across the State.
“We would not relent on our efforts in fighting the activities of illegal miners and bring them to book across the State” Maru said.
