The joint Congress of Parliamentary Staff Association of National Assembly (PASAN) National Assembly and National Assembly Service Commission on Monday embarked on an indefinite Strike.

Consequently, the unions locked all entry into the National Assembly complex and prevented vehicular movement to offices of the complex.

SINL Nigeria Online gathered the strike followed a resolution reached at a Joint Congress held on June 2 2022, at Conference Room 231 New Senate Building National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

It would be recalled that the Association and Management of the National Assembly entered into a Memorandum of Understanding for Management to pay its members the reviewed Minimum Wage and other Allowances contained in the Revised Conditions of Service.

Meanwhile after the expiration of the MOU on the 31st of December 2021, the Management relied on a circular of the National Salaries and Wages Commission to pay only 16months out of the 24months arrears of Minimum Wage in January 2022 and failed to pay other allowances contained in the Conditions of Service and the MOU.

Accordingly, the Association convened a Joint Congress in March 2022 and submitted its Communique to the National Secretariat to transmit it to the Management and copied same to the Presiding Officers as well as the Commission.

The Communique gave an ultimatum of 31st May 2022 for Management to fully implement the MOU or face industrial action.

Upon the expiration of ultimatum with Management refusal to implement the MOU under the excuse of requiring another approval from Salaries and Wages Commission before further payment of any other allowances, the Association convened another Congress which held on Thursday and confirmed the commencement of industrial action.
