Philanthropist donates building materials to flood victims in Zamfara

A Philanthropist, Alhaji Sama’ila Funtua has donated 1,500 bags of cement to victims of flood disaster in Anka, Bakura, Bukkuyum and Gummi local government areas of Zamfara State. 

Recall, scores were displaced and multi-million naira worth of farmland, produce and property destroyed across the state.


The donation was provided through the an NGO, “Sama’ila Funtua Foundation”.


Presenting the items to Anka emirate on Saturday, Funtua said the gesture was aimed at complementing government’s efforts in providing succour to the victims. 

Funtua represented by Alhaji Balan Bayis said that government alone cannot cater for all the needs of the citizens, stressing that well-meaning individuals should provide support to the victims.


He said Bakura LGA recieved 600 bags of the cement while Anka, Gummi and Bukkuyum LGAs received 300 bags each.


Earlier, the State Chairman of the Foundation Alhaji Faruku Danhausa said the gesture was meant to mitigate the effect of the disaster, adding that it affected many households, farm produce and other valuable properties.


“On behalf of the foundation, we sympathise with the victims, we also pray for Allah’s intervention to prevent future occurence of the disaster”, he said.


Receiving the donation, the Emir of  Anka and Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad commended the Philanthropist for the gesture to the victims.


The emir said, the Philanthropist was the first individual to donate relief materials to the flood victims in the state.


He appealed to other well-meaning individuals and political office holders to emulate Funtua,
“We have no doubt this gesture would help in relieving victims from the burden of the disaster.

“We are going to make sure that the items reach the targeted victims”, the monarch said.


NAN further reports that the items for Bukkuyum, Bakura and Gummi LGAs were presented to their respective emirs.
