Kateng Daniel, Jos
There was confusion on Wednesday in Jos when the leadership of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) declared that the party does not have a candidate ahead of the Saturday bye-election.
The Party National officer, Mr. Auwal Sani accompanied by the State Chairman, Alh. Yusuf Sani Umar while speaking with Journalists at INEC office in Jos, said PRP did not field a candidate for the bye-election.
But the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had shortlisted Adamu Muhammad Alkali as candidate of PRP ahead of the bye-election.
Sani explained that the party only recognized the National Chairman, under the leadership of Comrade, Adulmajid Yakubu Daudu, saying anyone who is dealing with different person does so at his risk.
“We are here today to find out the outcome of the petition that we submitted sometimes on the so called faction of the PRP in Plateau State, and we want to make clear and emphasized that there is only one PRP Leader at the National Level who is Comrade Adulmajid Yakubu Daudu and the State Chairman Yusuf Sani Umar.
“If a so called faction has presented a candidate, we are not aware because we are the original PRP and that is why we had submitted a petition to INEC long before now to look into it, and we are waiting for them to act on the petition.”
Sani explained that it was on this account that the party did not present any candidate for the bye-election because the focus is to reorganize the party ahead of 2023 elections.
The State Chairman of (PRP), Alhaji Yusuf Sani Umar said anybody parading himself as PRP chairman is a fraudster.
“We are not after by-election, but the task ahead of us is restructuring the part for 2023, as far as we are concerned, we are not participating in the by-election on Saturday, 26th February, 2022 and we don’t have a candidate”.
