Thousands of protesting youths on Thursday stormed government house in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
There was a clash between the rampaging youths and security operatives, as Youth and Civil Society Coalition Development
(YCSCD) has called for restraint.
The youths reportedly came from all directions to the government house, with the intention to deliver protest message to Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, but were stopped at the gate by a combined team of security operatives.
Our correspondent who went round Dutse, the state capital witnessed massive destructions of bill boards and posters belonging to the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) across the nooks and crannies of the city.
Specifically, the state APC headquarters in Dutse was looted and set ablaze by the protesting youths, who were later dispersed by a team of policemen brought to secure the party’s secretariat.
The combined team of security operatives comprising the police, soldiers and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was led by the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Tinzani Abdullahi.
Meanwhile, reports across the 27 Local Government Areas indicate that the protest took place simultaneously with scores of damaged properties in Gumel town.
However, Comrade Aminu Aminu, the National President of Youth and Civil Society Coalition Development (YCSCD), on behalf of other 50 Civil Society groups said they will not take part in the on going nationwide protest.
