A bill seeking to establish the Federal College of Health Technology in Song, Adamawa State has passed third reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Aliyu Wakili Boya, who represents Fufore/Song Federal Constituency and chairs the Committee on Police Institutions, is a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare education system.
The proposed institution aims to serve as a center for excellence in health technology, to offer
training, research, and professional certifications in various health-related fields.
According to the bill, the College will be a corporate entity empowered to own property, sue or be sued, and operate with full administrative autonomy.
Key objectives include providing comprehensive courses in health sciences, promoting community based health research, and producing skilled health professionals to meet both national and international standards.
The bill also empowers the College to accept grants, establish departments, and develop infrastructure necessary for its academic mission.
Hon. Boya expressed optimism that the new College will not only improve access to quality health education in Adamawa State but also boost local employment and healthcare delivery in the region.
The bill now awaits concurrence by the Senate and Presidential assent to become law.
