The House of Representatives committee on Public Account on Thursday summoned the Head of Service, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan and the chairman of the federal civil service commission, Dr. Tukur Bello Ingawa to appear before it on Tuesday.
The committee, chaired by Honourable Bamidele Salam (PDP, Osun) had invited the Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein to explain why the office of the Accountant General failed to submit two years report as demanded by law among other infractions.
Madein, while briefing the committee noted that some of the challenges being faced by her office was due to the absence of substantive Auditor General of the Federation (AuGF).
Irked by this revelation, a member of the committee moved a motion for the committee to summon the Head of Service of the Federation and Chairman of the federal civil service commission to come and explain to the committee why a substantive AuGF has not been appointed for one year.
According to the committee, “it is an obvious breach of the constitution”.
When asked to give the total staff strength of the office of the Accountant General, she said “I cannot give you the total staff strength, but at the headquarters, we have 2700 staff”
On when last the office of the Accountant General of the Federation did staff recruitment, Madein added “the last recruitment was in 2016 for junior cadre staff”.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the committee applauded Madein for honouring the call of the committee, saying “if we need further clarification we will invite you”.
The committee however went into executive session, before it adjourned sitting.
