The Jigawa state Workers Verification Committee has discovered that over N2.5b was paid monthly to ghost workers in both state and local government pay rolls.
The Committee headed by Hon.Surajo Kantoga of the state House of Assembly made the disclosure while presenting the committee reports to Hon. Bala Usman Chamo, Chairman of Dutse metropolitan council on Thursday.
Kantoga said most of the affected victims were teacher’s attached to the council education department, and whose employment were illegal.
He lamented how favoritism, corruption and abuse of civil service rules characterised employment and promotion of staff to next grade levels.
He stressed that the committee during its sitting discovered that about 84 teachers were accused of different offences, while it halt the stoppage of payment of monthly salary of 16 teachers on the basis of lack of competency and absence of approved paper qualification to teach.
According to him the committee has also directed two teachers to refund back their un- authorised monthly salary of two months, saying findings has indicted them as amongst the ghost workers.
Other findings of the committee includes, 13 teachers without minium paper qualification of NCE to teach, while it recommend retirement of three teachers, in addition to other 14 teacher’s without NCE qualification.
Similarly the committee has discovered 29 teachers that were promoted illegally, as well as one teacher that was recently employed illegally.
Receiving the report, the Dutse Council Chairman, Hon. Bala Usman Chamo commended the Committee for a job well done, assuring the implementation of the committee’s reports will go along way in injecting sanity, transparency, and social justice in local government administration.
Chamo who is also Jigawa state ALGON Chairman, assured the Committee of the present administration’s resolve to reposition the state, and local government administration, however assured of implementing the reports deligently.
