Revealed! There was nothing like Mambilla power project… Minister

The Minister of power, Engineer Saleh Mamman on Monday revealed that contrary to believe in certain quarters, the Mambilla power project did not exist.


Acccording to the minister, there was nothing like Mambilla power project.


Saleh spoke on Monday at the 2021 Budget defence of the Senate Committee on power held in Abuja.


Senator Gabriel Suswam is the chairman of the Senate Committee on power.


He explained that before assumption of office as a minister, there was nothing on ground with respect to the project.


Mamman added that the project has been stalled by litigation, saying the counterpart fund of $200million is currently domiciled at the presidency.


He lamented that the counterpart fund of $200million has not been released to him to kickstart the project.


“There is money set aside, you are all aware, $200million counterpart fund. This money has been there for long at the office of chief of staff to the president.


“I keep on pressing all the time, let this money be release to me, so that I can go to site and do some clearance. It is with this money that we will do the ground breaking and tell the world that we are ready.


“Any investor that want to come, let him come. That is what the Chinese are waiting for. I am trying my best.


“All this year, there was nothing like Mambilla project, all these years people keep on talking about Mambilla, there was nothing on ground” Mamman declared.


Similarly, Senator Shuaibu Lau, bemoaned the poor state of the Mambilla power project, saying “There is no road leading to Mambilla plateau”.

“No commitment on the part of government”.
But acccording to Senator James Manager, the Taraba state government should construct the road leading to the plateau.


“Taraba governor have responsibility of providing road to the Mambilla plateau” Manager said.
