Senate Committee Screens Prof. Saleh Usman

(SINL NIGERIA) The Senate committee on Foreign Affairs on Tuesday screened President Bola Tinubu’s nominee for the office of the chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman.

In a unanimous decision, the committee adopted the choice of Professor Usman based on experience and pedigree.

Briefing newsmen shortly after the screening, chairman of the committee, Senator Sani Bello (Niger North), said members of the committee had gone through the comprehensive CV of the nominee, stressing that based on clearance from the Department of State Services (DSS), the committee saw no hindrance.

“Members had his comprehensive CV, all the necessary documentation, DSS report verified, his experience in terms of running religious affairs was not in doubt. He is very fluent in Arabic.

“We as committee members took time to study his CV carefully, we found him fit to occupy the position, he has good references, after all what is screening? Screening is to verify, the capacity of the nominee.

“As far as documentation is concerned, we are satisfied with his capacity” Senator Bello said.

He explained that the report of the committee will be ready by tomorrow, for presentation at the plenary on Thursday.

“You know he has been acting and normally, we don’t like somebody to remain in acting capacity for a long time; with regard to response by plenary, I cannot say much. I hope our colleagues at the plenary will give this report the attention it deserve” he added.
