Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District has said there is need for the judiciary to be well equipped to enhance efficiency.
The lawmaker made a case for the judicial arm of government in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.
Specifically, Nwoko decried the situation that the judiciary operates in, in Nigeria.
He said, “Judiciary generally is neglected in Nigeria, they are ignored, they are more like a junior partner in this whole arrangement, and it shouldn’t be so.
“Their remuneration is poor, their training is nothing to write home about. The accommodations and other things that are needed for them to function independently, comfortably, and without fear are not there”.
Consequently, he insisted that the judiciary should be as comfortable as other arms of government, while advocating for their budget to be as big as it can be.
He further stated that the Judiciary must be protected and empowered to operate effectively.
Senator Nwoko while reacting to his victory at the Appeal court on Wednesday said, “I am not praising them but I am telling you about the inadequate situation that they operate in.
“I know because they are not existing in isolation; we have them as friends, cousins and fellow Nigerians”.
