The Islamic Movement, also known as the Shi’ites, has called for unconditional release of at least 26 members allegedly killed by the army during a peaceful protest to mark 2025 Abuja International Quds Day and in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

Shaikh Sidi Munir Mainasara, in a statement on Saturday morning on behalf of the Islamic Movement under the leadership of His Eminence Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), made the call in Abuja.

Mainasara alleged that “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu refused to release the corpses of Free Palestine protesters, three months after the protestors were killed extrajudicially in Abuja.”

He said the Islamic group has directed its legal counsel to prosecute the killing of the free Palestine protestors and sue all the agents of the regime that were engaged in the murder.

According to him, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led regime continues to detain the bodies of the free Palestine protesters killed by the Guards Brigade in Abuja, and we are fully aware that under the law, the Presidential Guards Brigade in Nigeria operates under a clear chain of command starting with the President of Nigeria.

“On Friday, 28 March 2025, around 2 pm, the Guards Brigade unprovokedly attacked the 2025 Abuja International Quds Day held at Usman Bin Affan Mosque along Aminu Kano Crescent, Abuja.

“During the attack, the army killed 26 protesters and arrested 274, including 60 minors.

.

“And up to this moment, the army and the police refused to release both the detained protesters and the corpses of those killed by the army.

“The corpses include the body of Shaheed Huzaifa Muhammad, Tudun Iya, Katsina State, who attained martyrdom on Monday, 7 April 2025, around 6 pm in SARS Abattoir, Guzape, Abuja.

“It is pertinent to state that the crime of both the protesters killed by the Guards Brigade and those being detained is participation in the 2025 Abuja International Quds Day and demonstrating their support for the freedom of Palestine.

“International Quds Day was initiated by Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979. Quds Day is a global day of solidarity with Palestinians, observed peacefully in over 80 countries.

“The Islamic movement under the leadership of His Eminence Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky has been observing Quds Day for more than four decades.

“The 2025 Quds Day was observed in more than 17 states of Nigeria, including cities like Lagos, Kano, and Sokoto, without any report of provocations.

“Given the foregoing, we demand the unconditional release of both the corpses and all those who are being imprisoned in connection with the Quds Day demonstration.

“Moreover, we have directed our legal counsels to prosecute the assassination of free Palestine protestors and sue all the agents of the regime that were engaged in the murders,” he said.
