A federal lawmaker representing Gummi/Bukkuyum federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Engineer Suleiman Abubakar Gummi has raised the alarm of alleged threat to his life.
The lawmaker said suspected political thugs burnt his campaign vehicle, vandalized his office in Gummi town, West of Zamfara state.
According to Engineer Gummi, the attack at his campaign office and properties was the fourth in recent time.
The lawmaker said the incident occurred on thursday when a number of suspected thugs staged an attack and set fire on his campaign van.
“There was a time when the political thugs attempted to burn down an office I built for PDP at Gummi town, they made several attempts but were prevented by security agents and good samaritans in the town”.
He lamented that the thugs were allegedly sponsored by a prominent politician in Gummi because of political difference.
Gummi added “the alleged mastermind politician, a key member of the state government once told my supporters that they would stop the opposition”.
He further alleged that on several occasions his posters were destroyed on the order of a politician sponsoring thuggery in Gummi town.
When contacted, the Zamfara state chairman committee on Anti thuggery, drugs abuse and other related offences, Bello Mohammed Bakyasuwa said he was not aware of the incident, he however assured to investigate and bring whoever was involved to book.
He warned that his committee will not condone any form of thuggery that could destabilise the peace in the state.
“Our committee will work tirelessly to ensure that all thuggery, drug abuse and other related political attacks are curtail in the state”.
