Updated: Armed bandits kill police, 2 civilian guards, abduct 15 students, others at Zamfara college of Agric

The Zamfara State police command has confirmed the death of a police inspector and abduction of 15 students, 4 staff at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science Bakura by armed bandits.

The state commissioner of police CP Ayuba Elkana confirmed that 2 civilian guards were killed, saying 3 other staff of the college were however rescued by the police quick response.

Also speaking with newsmen on Monday the Deputy Registrar of the college, Aliyu Atiku, confirmed the incident via telephone conversation.

According to him, the Bandits stormed the main campus of the school around 10:00 pm on Sunday and spent about one and a half hours operating in the school.

He said, two staff and one student escaped from the Bandits after they kidnapped them and returned to the school early Monday morning.
“As I am talking to you now, we have formally discovered that the bandits kidnapped 15 students all of them male, three women and one person who are also our staff and killed two of our security watchmen, one police inspector”.


The Commissioner of Police Zamfara State Police, CP Ayuba N. Elkana accompanied by strategic and tactical  Commanders visited the College in the early hours of Monday.


According to him, the Bandits who were in large number went to the school at about midnight with intent to abduct large number of students and staff, but were heavily confronted by the Tactical Police Operatives who were alerted and responded to the scene on time. 

“Unfortunately, a Police Inspector and two (2) other civilian guards lost their lives while 15 students and 4 staff were abducted by the bandits”.

He stressed that Police operatives while on extensive bush combing at the sarrounding areas rescued 3 staff who will be debriefed and medically examine before being reunited with their families. 

The Commissioner of Police held an emergency meeting where he assured the school management and the relations that the Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies; especially the Military are employing various search and rescue strategies in order to ensure safe rescue of the abducted students and staff.
