Zamfara state government has said it will not negotiate with bandits in the state.
The chief of staff, Zamfara Govt House, Alhaji Mukhatar Lugga made this known at the weekly Islamic preaching session organized by the state ministry for religious affairs held in Gusau.
According to him, the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has firmly resolved against negotiating with individuals, persons or organisations involved in any form of banditry activities in the state.
The Chief of Staff further stated that the government is doing its best to ensure the restoration of peace and tranquility within the communities in the state.
He declared that the state government has in partnership with relevant security agencies and stakeholders planned and implemented strategies to minimize the problem.
He added that the measures were gradually succeeding. He therefore commended the efforts of the security agencies in their commitment to minimize banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
Lugga called on Chief Imams of Jumma’at mosques in the state to conduct special prayers especially during this last ten days of Ramadan.
He expressed optimism that during the period, Allah will answer the prayers, forgive sins and allow peace and unity to prevail in the state and nation at large.
Also speaking, a prominent scholar in the state Malam Abba Siddi Kaura reminded the Muslim community of the importance of giving out Zakatul Fitr to the poor and needy two days before the eid-el-Fitr sallah celebration.
He urged wealthy individuals and philanthropists to assist the less privileged Muslims.
