The Coalition of Northern groups has revealed that banditry activities in the north was caused by unpatriotic leadership, insincerity and poverty that ravaged communities, saying that is why the activities of hoodlums may not end.
Delivering a lecture during a workshop organized on Tuesday by the Coalition of Northern group students wing at Federal College of Education Technical, Gusau, Dr Abdulrahman Adamu of the federal university Gusau, noted that poverty is on the high level in the north.
According to him, unless leaders changed their attitudes, the region would continue to witness banditry activities.
He maintained that the lecture was part of Maitama Sule leadership lecture series with the theme Insecurity: interrogating the effect of banditry on Education and Development in northern Nigeria.
“If we don’t change our minds, behavior and attitudes towards acquiring wealth, we will continue to be in problem of banditry activities”.
In his contribution, The Zamfara State chairman coalition of non governmental organizations(NGOS )Mallam Ibrahim Tudu said the north need to have its commission like other region in the country.
“We need to have north west development commission, like Niger Delta development commission to have our resources and development plans for our region”.
Earlier on, the National coordinator coalition of Northern groups, Jamilu Ibrahim charanchi said their vision was to mobilize youth as natural and legitimate custodians of power to utilize.
He said part of their mission was also to provide mentorship for the emergence of a new set of credible leaders in a new social and political order.
