The Managing Director of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Sulaiman Abdulaziz on Thursday gave insight why Kaduna and Kano DisCos were disconnected by the TCN.
He stated that the two DisCos defaulted, saying they are the worse in the country.
Abdulaziz spoke at the investigative hearing of the senate committee on power held in Abuja.
He however added that the two DisCos have since been reconnected to the national grid with 60 days grace.
“There were procedures before disconnection, we followed all the processes” he said.
Also speaking, Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) Senatorial zone, said government agencies should be encourage to pay their energy bills.
He cited military formations as part of defaulters of energy, saying recently the head of Kaduna DisCos in Birnin Kebbi was assaulted for disconnecting electricity of a military barracks.
Meanwhile, chairman of the committee on power), Senator Gabriel Suswam (Benue North East) canvassed for aggressive sensitization and information to consumers of electricity on the need to offset their bills promptly.
But minister of state for power, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu regretted that indebtness by consumers in the power sector could adversely affect the DisCos, saying “whatever you do if you don’t have collection, it will amount to nothing”.
