Bandits have again killed 82-year-old district head of Gada, in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara state, Alhaji Umar Bawan Allah and four others.
The bandits also set his palace and vehicles on fire after the monarch was killed.
It was gathered that the bandits kidnapped many people, including women and children in the area.
An indigene of the town, Makau Mohammed, who spoke to SINL Nigeria Online correspondent said, “The bandits came to the town in large number and blocked all the roads leading to the town and shot sporadically”.
According to Mohammed, some of the bandits went into the town, while others stayed by the roadsides to ensure that nobody escaped in the village.
“The spent several hours in the town, where they searched many houses, took away several items including foodstuffs and money and abducted many people in the town.
“Our District head was killed by the bandits, He was shot dead because he resisted attempt to abduct him”.
Continuing, he said the bandits later set his palace on fire, where several items including his two vehicles were burnt to ashes”.
Addresing newsmen on Wednesday evening at the the state police Command headquarters in Gusau, the commissioner of police, CP Ayuba Elkana said police has already deployed Tactical team to the affected town, and are on the trail of the fleeing bandits.
The CP said a police tactical team has rescued 9 kidnapped victims, adding that security operatives are working to ensure the rescue of other victims.
“Nine kidnapped victims were rescued by the tactical team, while effort is ongoing to apprehend the assailants and rescue other victims” Elkana said.
