The Zamfara state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called for proper investigation of the death of a veteran journalist, Hamisu Danjibga who was murdered by unknown assailants.
Danjibga, until his death was a reporter with Voice of Nigeria (VON), was declared missing for three days, before his body was found in a soakaway behind his residence in Samaru area of Gusau, the state capital.
A statement on Wednesday night and signed by Ibrahim Ahmad, the council secretary expressed deep concern over the nature of Danjibga’s demise, however appealed to security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the statement which read in part said, “the discovery of his corpse was as result of unpleasant odour observed by Islamiya Children in the evening of Wednesday 20th September, 2023 who drew the attention of their teachers.
“After breaking the soakaway the dead body was confirmed to be that of Danjibga by his family and some neighbours. His funeral rites have since been observed according to Islamic injunctions.
“The Union extends it heartfelt condolence to the family, Voice of Nigeria and entire Zamfara state”.
