Zamfara Gov’s wife seeks support of parents, guardians to tackle gender based violence

A group of women activists led by the Wife of  Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Aisha Bello Matawalle has urged parents and Guardians to warn their Children against indecent dressing, saying rape is never a mistake, but intentional.

The first lady also called for support for fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the society, stressing that indecent dressing was one of the major cause of rape in the society.

Hajiya Aisha Matawalle gave the charge on saturday after a peaceful rally as part of 2021 16 Days of Activism against GBV.

The first lady cautioned parents and guardians to train their children against indecent dressing in order to minimize sexual assault perpetrated on women and children.

“As we all know, indecent dressing is one of the major cause of rape and other sexual violence related problems affecting women and girls.

“You should bring your children closer to you so as to understand their situation in case they are affected by one of the violence”, she said. 

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Dr Rabi Ibrahim Shinkafi appreciated the governor’s wife contributions towards struggle against Gender Based violence at all levels in the state. 

“This is one of the good qualities of the first lady’s stewardship as a mother of all in the state.

“We will continue to partner with all relevant stakeholders in educating women on how to improve their lives”.

Speaking while receiving the first lady at the police command headquarters in Guasau, the Commissioner of police CP Ayuba Elkana assured police women of maximum support and security against gender based violence.
