In a bid to sanitize religious and cultural norms and values, Zamfara state Hisbah commission has banned unlawful marriage ceremonies in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Gusau, the Executive Chairman of the commission, Sheikh Umar Hassan stated that the state government was worried about the encroachment of alien and irreligious activities into Islamic marriages in the state.
He stressed that to curtail and eventually eliminate the problem, the commission has established three standing committees to confront the problem.
Sheikh Hassan explained that the committees were that of information and intelligence, monitoring and surveillance and that of consultation.
He maintained that the committees will strictly collaborate with security and law enforcement agencies in the state to ensure prompt and strict compliance with the ban order.
Zamfara state has been synonymous with the implementation of Islamic Shariah legal system for over a couple of years.
The implementation process has, however, suffered setbacks due to what analysts attributed to political reasons and lack of willpower.
