Suspected Bandits in Zamfara state have reportedly made prominent leaders of volunteer associations, known as “Vanguard group” their targets to strengthen their hold on vulnerable communities.
The bandits on Thursday besieged Dansadau district in Maru local government area and killed a leading member of a volunteer group, Nura Dankurma alongside15 others.
Eye witness told SINL Nigeria Online that the bandits had earlier in the day, blocked the busy Gusau/Dansadau road, attacked vehicles and killed three passengers on the spot.
According to the source, the bandits later moved to Malele village in Matunji district where members of the community, assisted by the volunteer groups engaged the bandits.
“In the exchange of fire that lasted three hours, the bandits killed eight people, burnt two trucks and carted away number of cattle”.
“In a separate attack at Babban Kwari village, eight people reportedly lost their lives, while four trucks and 16 motorcycles belonging to members of the communities were destroyed”.
Meanwhile, the state commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Muhammad Dauran who confirmed the incidence to our Correspondent said seven people lost their lives, saying “bandits from neighbouring Niger and Kaduna states were dislodged by the ongoing military operations in synergy with other security agencies”.
It would be recalled that bandits last Wednesday, attacked a community in Dansadau emirate and killed a renowned leader of the Vanguard group, Bala mai Gora, allegedly with ten others.
A similar attack was carried out by suspected bandits during last Monday’s market in Birnin Tsaba in Birnin Magaji local government area where four people were allegedly killed, two of whom were twin brothers.
