Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the constitution of a committee to investigate and ascertain the root causes of the fire incident at a Qur’anic school in Kaura Namoda local government area that killed 17 students.
Conveying the approval, the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, SSG, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada said the committee will also assess the level of damages, recommend measures to be taken to prevent future recurrence of such unfortunate incidents and suggest appropriate support for the affected in order to facilitate recovery.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Media Office of the Secretary to Zamfara State Government, Comrade Suleiman Ahmad Tudu.
According to the statement, insights from the report of the committee will also help the government in implementing proactive safety measures across other Qur’anic schools and public places in the state, in line with the national fire safety code.
Membership of the committee include Prof. Jafaru Makau Kaura – Chairman, Sheikh Ahmad Ibn Umar Kanoma, Special Adviser, Religious Matters, chairman, Hisbah Commission, Rep. Ministry for Religious Affairs
Representative, Ministry of Education, Science & Technology, representatives, ministry for Local Government Affairs, three members from Ulama Consultative Council, representative, of Commissioner of Police.
Others are representative, from the Department of State Security, DSS, representatives, from Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, representatives, from Department of Fire Service, and Secretary of the Ulama Consultative Council.
