(SINL NIGERIA) Zamfara State government has constituted a high power committee to regulate and prevent the cultivation of tall crops along major highways in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the spokesman of the State ministry of Agriculture, Bashir Abashiya and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the State capital.
The statement added that the effort is a proactive step aimed to enhancing security and curbing criminal hideouts.
The statement further stated that the initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to address the rising concerns over the use of tall crops as concealment by bandits and criminals.
“As part of its mandate according the committee will embark on a State-wide sensitization campaign, visiting all local governments and emirate councils to educate farmers and communities on the new directive and its security implications”, the statement added.
Also, the statement indicated that, Zamfara State government reiterated its commitment to balancing agricultural practices with public safety, calling on stakeholders to cooperate fully with the committee.
The committee is chaired by the Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture, Hon. Ya’u Haruna Gamji with membership drawn from the key ministries and security agencies.
